New York Times Co. Subscription Revenue Surpassed $1 Billion in 2017
“We’re pleased with the continued rate of growth and particularly pleased to be seeing strong retention from the large group of new subscribers who came to The Times late last
year,” Mark Thompson, the company’s chief executive, said in a statement, referring to the growth in subscriptions that recorded around the 2016 presidential election.
The company said on Thursday that it added 157,000 net digital-only subscriptions in the fourth
quarter of the year, pushing overall subscription revenue to more than $1 billion for the year.
Total revenue for the year increased 8 percent, to $1.7 billion, and 10 percent in the fourth quarter, to $484 million.
Digital-only subscription revenue increased 46 percent in 2017, to $340 million, and 51 percent for the quarter, to $96 million
