Hundreds of Vehicles Trapped on Highway by Thick Snow in Japan's Fukui Prefecture

Heavy snow stranded at least 1,400 vehicles on roads in Fukui prefecture, Japan, overnight on Tuesday, February 6, and into Wednesday.

Authorities worked overnight on Tuesday in a bid to free the vehicles in Awara and Sakai cities, according to Kyodo News.

These videos were filmed by a bus passenger in Maruokacho Asahi, Sakai. They show trucks and cars trapped by the snow on Japan National Route 8. The video taker told Storyful he had been travelling from Osaka to Kanazawa when he became stranded by the snow.

One motorist in Fukui died from carbon monoxide poisoning after heavy snow trapped him inside his car according to local news reports. The snowfall in Fukui was reportedly the heaviest since 1981. Credit: usshiusshiusshi via Storyful
