ಈ ಬಾರಿಯ ಚುನಾವಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂಡ್ಯ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಮೇಲುಕೋಟೆ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ಕುತೂಹಲಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗಿದೆ. ಒಕ್ಕಲಿಗರ ಪಾಬಲ್ಯ ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಜೆಡಿಎಸ್‌ ಮತ್ತು ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ನೇರ ಹಣಾಹಣಿ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಹಾಲಿ ಶಾಸಕರು ಸರ್ವೋದಯ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಪಕ್ಷದಿಂದ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಾಗಿರುವ ರೈತ ನಾಯಕ ಕೆ.ಎಸ್.ಪುಟ್ಟಣ್ಣಯ್ಯ. ಹಲವು ಬಾರಿ ಸೋಲು ಕಂಡಿದ್ದ ಅವರು 2013ರ ಚುನಾವಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಜಯಗಳಿಸಿದರು.
