The Chinese Crested Dog. This interesting little thing is quite a character. Often favoured as a handbag dog, she certainly gives off the cool vibe. If you should have an encounter with her on the metro or in the street, you’ll find her so very friendly and affectionate. If etiquette allows she’d more than enjoy a petting.
As her owner you’ll find her very affectionate, playful and sensitive as a companion. This dog should come across as happy-go-lucky and sharp, they are well known for their alertness. Amongst the family she’s in her element, her devotion and eagerness to fit in making her a pleasure to have around.
She hates the cold, but loves to be outdoors in nice weather. A romp around outside is often more than enough to meet her exercise needs, as is a mad half hour indoors each day. If she’s the hairless model she’ll need a coat for cold weather; these dogs don’t fair well in outdoor living conditions and should always be kept indoors.
Grooming her needs time spent on it, whether she’s the ‘powderpuff’ or the hairless variety. A powerpuff dog will need brushing daily, and her muzzle will need keeping trim, ideally a shave every two weeks. The hairless dog uncharacteristically needs just as much attention in the form of skin care. She’ll need moisturizer, sun block and regular bathing.
Interesting facts: The Chinese sea merchants used to bring them from Africa as curios to trade for goods, as they were of intriguing appearance. They were also very welcome on the ships, as they caught the rats and were free or fleas!
