What’s on our menu today is more then a recipe of a good meal.
It’s the secret from where it all begins.

Feeding a population of 26 million people is a mammoth task.
Still Delhi has always surprised us with its delicious delicacies.

While the constant expansion in the city’s urban spread has got its name listed as one of the biggest metropolises in the world, it has also forced it to a scenario where it has to import a large portion of its food from other parts of the country.

Running parallel to this scenario of massive consumption, farmers in the south-west region of the city dedicate themselves to the production of crops that later feed, at least partially, the big appetite of Delhi.

A familiar vegetable like cauliflower or phool gobhi that is consumed in almost every household in the city is also produced right in this region in a village called Dichaon Kalan.

75% of the population of this village is involved in farming. They dedicate 9 to 10 months of a year to produce various types of cauliflower like Madhuri, Aganya etc. to fulfill almost 95% of the consumption of this vegetable in the city.

For more then 60 years the village sends fleets of trucks loaded with cauliflower everyday to the wholesale markets or mandis. All this has earned the village the name- Gobhi Wala Gaon.
