Quantum physicist Professor Michelle Simmons was named Australian of the Year for 2018 for her work in the field, conducted at the University of New South Wales.
Professor Simmons was announced as Australian of the Year in a ceremony on January 25, ahead of Australia Day on January 26. Originally from the United Kingdom, she became an Australian citizen in 2007 and in 2012, along with her team, created the world’s smallest transistor made from a single atom, the ABC reported.
