Taiwan Earthquake: Strong Tremor Strikes Near Yujing and Kaohsiung

A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.4 has struck the southern part of Taiwan, seismologists say. There was no immediate word about damage or casualties. The earthquake, which struck at 3:57 a.m. local time on Saturday, was centered about 25 kilometers (16 miles) south of Yujing, or 36 kilometers (22 miles) northeast of Kaohsiung City. It struck about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to seismologists.
