Firefighters from around the region were responding to a bushfire burning in the Tomago, Williamtown area, near Newcastle Airport, on Saturday, January 13.
The fire had burned 28 hectares by Saturday afternoon, the NSW Rural Fire Service said, and a DC-10 aircraft was en route. “Residents in Barry Close, Cabbage Tree Rd and Massonite Rd and the Newcastle Airport precinct are advised to shelter in place as it is to late to leave,” the fire service said.
