While heavy snowfalls are not unusual for January in Temirtau, Kazakhstan, residents were alarmed last week after snow fell white, but then was quickly coated by a black dust once on the ground, prompting environmental concerns.
Previously, local media reported that Temirtau had some of the highest pollution rates in the country.
