A storm hammered California with rain early on Tuesday, January 9, triggered mudflows and flooding across the state. At least five people were reported dead amid mudflows in Montecito, a news report said.
The National Weather Service said .56 inches of rain fell in Montecito in five minutes. In nearby Carpinteria, .86 inches of rain fell in 15 minutes, the weather service said. The maximum rainfall was at 3:30-3:45am, the weather service said.
