Protesters gathered in front of the White House in Washington on January 8 to “defend TPS,” or Temporary Protected Status for El Salvador nationals living in the US, after the Trump administration announced that the designation will end.
Salvadoran nationals residing in the US under TPS, a protection extended in 2001 after earthquakes struck the country, will have until September 9, 2019, to leave or become legal residents another way, according to reports.
The administration also recently announced the retraction of TPS for nationals of Haiti and Honduras. Credit: Instagram/Janis Contreras via Storyful
