NBC on Sunday either offered its support for an Oprah Winfrey 2020 presidential run or played along with a joke from host Seth Meyers Golden Globes opening remarks, notes Mediaite.
Regardless of the motivation, a number of people were not pleased.
The network's tweet, posted during the Golden Globes, read "Nothing but respect for OUR future president."
Just prior, Meyers had quipped, "In 2011, I told some jokes about our current president at the White House Correspondents Dinner."
"Some have said that night convinced him to run." Meyers further noted. "So if that's true, I just want to say: Oprah, you will never be president! You do not have what it takes!"
NBC's reaction to that remark prompted responses including, "No partisanship and bias in this tweet..." and, "Glad to know you're not biased."
Notably, it left others invigorated.
MSNBC's Joy Reid tweeted, "Switched back to the Golden Globes to watch Oprah get her award. Never let it be said that I don't respect the president of the United States," while Sarah Silverman simply wrote, "Oprah/Michelle 2020."
