The half of Pune and Mumbai is burning today after clashes broke out between two fraction at the Bhima Koregaon village in Pune. Dalit organisations congregated at Koregaon village near Pune to mark the 200th anniversary of the battle of Koregaon. The event was marred by incidents of stone pelting and vandalism. The incident occurred in the afternoon when people were heading towards a war memorial in the village. The Battle of Koregaon was fought on 1 January 1818 between the British East India Company and the Peshwa faction of the Maratha Confederacy, at Koregaon Bhima.
