A funnel cloud was spotted in Soweto, South Africa, on Saturday, December 30, as a storm damaged buildings and property.

This video, captured by George Liebenberg, shows the cloud formation from a distance. It was filmed on the R28 road while heading north from Westonaria, and the camera looks toward Soweto to the east.

An accompanying storm caused severe damage to the Soweto region, according to South African television station ENCA.

Residents in the nearby town of Protea Glen suffered significant damage to their homes, leaving some homeless, the news channel reported.

Meanwhile, three people were treated for shock after heavy rain caused part of the roof to collapse at the Trade Route Mall in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg, local site News24.com reported. Credit: Facebook/George Liebenberg via Storyful
