At least 40 people were killed and dozens more wounded in a suspected suicide attack near a Shia cultural center and Afghan Voice Agency news organization in Kabul on December 28, officials told TOLO News.
The attack took place at around 10:30 am at the gate of the Tabyan social and cultural activity center, where social activists had gathered for a meeting, according to reports. The center also houses the Afghan Voice Agency news outlet.
Officials told TOLO News there appeared to have been more than one attacker.
Pajhwok Afghan News, citing the deputy spokesman for the Minister of Interior, Nasrat Rahimi, said most of the 40 people killed were civilians. Thirty other people were injured, he said, with five remaining in a critical condition.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility. TOLO News reported that the Taliban denied that they were involved in the attack.
