President Trump on Sunday said that he's "proud to have led the charge against the assault" on the phrase, 'Merry Christmas.'

President Trump pledged to bring back the phrase 'Merry Christmas' and on Sunday, he indicated that he has fulfilled that campaign promise.
"People are proud to be saying Merry Christmas again," Trump wrote on Twitter. "I am proud to have led the charge against the assault of our cherished and beautiful phrase. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!"
In many of his speeches, Trump has insisted that Christmas is being threatened by efforts to make the holidays politically correct.
"You go to the stores, and they have the red walls and they have the snow and they even have the sleigh and the whole thing, they don't have Merry Christmas," Trump stated in October. "I want them to say Merry Christmas everybody, Happy New Year, Happy Holidays, but I want Merry Christmas."
"You know, we're getting near that beautiful Christmas season that people don't talk about anymore," the president said in another October speech. "Well, guess what?  We're saying 'Merry Christmas' again."
However, critics say Trump's message may have had a different impact.
"Trump's presidential battle cry about the greeting appears to have made people even more deliberate about what they say in December," the Washington Post noted.
Twitter users also questioned if this was ever an issue.
"I never stopped saying Merry Christmas, nor did anyone I know," wrote one tweeter.
"I feel like Donald Trump would try to take credit for the moon landing if he could," someone else tweeted.
