Thousands across Buenos Aires gathered to protest against the country’s newly passed pension reform on Tuesday, December 19.
Lawmakers passed the bill earlier in the day with a 128 to 116 vote, which will make effective a delay in the retirement age for Argentinians and a cut in welfare payments. The government said the move was necessary to lower the country’s deficit, according to BBC.
The demonstration was a continuation of Monday night’s protests, which turned violent as civilians threw stones and explosives at police, who fired tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannons in response.
