Sabarimala: A transgender who was part of a devotee group from Tamil Nadu was sent back by the police from the Sabarimala temple on Thursday evening.

Mohan (30), a Velloor native, was caught by the police from the Sannidanam. Mohan had produced the identity card establishing transsexuality. It is not clear whether he visited the temple. He was caught from the resting shed.

Meanwhile, women between ages 10 and 50 are restricted to visit the temple. Transgenders are mentioned nowhere in this.

Mohan was taken to Pamba accompanied by two police officers. Police said that even last year transgenders were not allowed to visit the temple.

At the same time Dewasom Board President A Padmakumar said that he doesn’t know whether it will be violation of rituals. Whatever stand the police takes will be accepted by the board on this issue, he added.
