The Portuguese Air Force transported a passenger who was in need of medical aid from the cruise ship Aida Blu on Monday, December 11.

According to local reports from Expresso and Correio de Manha, the passenger, a 47-year-old man, required “urgent medical care.” His condition was not specified, but he was taken via helicopter to Lisbon’s Aerodromo de Transito No. 1, a military airport, for assistance.

At the time of the rescue, the Aida Blu had sailed more than 155 miles from Montijo, a municipality in western Portugal. It was travelling under strong weather conditions, including heavy winds of more than 43 miles per hour and 26 foot waves.
