A Fresno County Sheriff’s Department K-9 accidentally shot in the line of duty has returned to work.

A Fresno County Sheriff's Department K-9 accidentally shot in the line of duty has returned to work.
The Fresno Bee reports that Dutch Shepherd Mikey "was assisting the [department's] SWAT team serve a search warrant in July when he was attacked by another dog."
A sheriff's deputy fired at the vicious animal, and a bullet passed through the target and struck Mikey in the foot.
It was initially thought a leg amputation would be necessary, but, in the end, the K-9 emerged from the ordeal almost as good as new.
KFSN reports that Mikey's handler, Deputy Sheriff Jerry Kitchens, says that the dog, "is the way he was minus two toes."
Kitchens also admits that on the day of his partner's injury, he didn't anticipate such a successful recovery.
"I saw his foot explode…As the day kind of started winding down, that is when the emotions started to set in," he recalled. "That is when I obviously knew that he probably was not going to return to work."
