Women athletes in Saudi Arabia are finally off the bench.
The kingdom recently held its first-ever women's basketball tournament, which featured six all-female teams. The tournament was held to raise awareness for breast cancer. More than 3,000 people attended, including women spectators.
Saudi women have historically been banned from games, both on and off the court. But Saudi Arabia is now permitting women to attend events in the country's biggest stadium.
The Ministry of Education will also open physical education classes to female students.
Hopefully this is just a first step for Saudi women becoming more involved in sports.
