Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara batted really well and slammed his 17th test 50 in 145 balls. Pujara along side Murali Vijay have steadied the Indian innings after Sri Lanka managed to dismiss KL Rahul on day one. The visitors elected to bat first after winning the toss but kept on losing wickets at regular interval. For India Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma were the pick of the bowlers as they allowed the Lankan batsman to settle in the middle.
