Before he was the Meta, Agent Maine was a brutal Freelancer who strived to become the best. When he was given the A.I. Sigma to communicate after losing his voice, Maine slowly fell under Sigmas influence and became a monster who betrayed Project Freelancer for two new goals: the acquisition of all armor enhancements and A.I. to become the most powerful being, and to reach Metastability, taking the name Meta to represent his objective. His ions have threatened Project Freelancer, UNSC, the public, and the Reds and Blues.\r

Metas intention to kill and steal enhancements from the other Freelancer Agents is somewhat comparable to Gabriel Sylar Grays rampage from the popular American TV show Heroes. There are traits similar to the Final Fantasy VII antagonist Jenovas effect, Reunion, in that the AIs seem to have a tendency to reunite with the original entity; in this case, Alpha.\r

Freelancer Agent Carolina, last name Church, is a main charer in Red vs. Blue and a rogue agent in the Special Operations program, Project Freelancer. She was part of an experimental program as a result of the Director of the project speeding along experiments to discover traits with aggressive A.I. Carolina, in particular, was implanted with two A.I. in her head. According to Delta she only functioned for a short time, and not very well while she did.\r

Many believed Carolina to be dead following the events of the Freelancer break-in. However, it is revealed in theHate to Say Goodbye that Carolina has ually been alive since then, and has been searching for the Director in her plan to kill him. Because of her involvement, she could be considered the main protagonist of the Project Freelancer Saga.
