Strong winds whipped through the western parts of Washington state on Monday, November 13, felling trees and breaking power lines in several counties.

At Whidbey Island north of Seattle, where the video was recorded, wind gusts of around 60 mph were recorded at a ferry terminal. Classes were canceled at some of the district’s schools and, farther east, 45,000 residents experienced a power outage in Snohomish County and on Camano Island.

One woman in her mid-30s was killed in Renton, about 12 miles from Seattle, when a tree crashed on top of their car, a local paper reported. The woman’s sister, travelling in the same vehicle, was injured. A two-year-old child of the deceased was unharmed, the local fire department said.

The storm hit overnight on Sunday and conditions were expected to persist through Tuesday. Credit: Facebook/Robynne Bennett via Storyful
