Protesters marched silently through Warsaw on November 6 in memory of Piotr Szczesny, who set himself on fire last month to protest Poland’s ruling party, which he said was “destroying the rule of law and democracy,” according to the AP

Szczesny, 54, self-immolated on October 19 and died one week later. He scattered leaflets during his act which said the right-wing Law and Justice party (PiS) has his blood on their hands. “This government must be changed as fast as possible before it completely destroys our country, before it completely deprives us of freedom,” he wrote.
