At least 27 people are known to have died in Vietnam as a result of Typhoon Damrey.
It is the twelfth major storm to hit the country this year making landfall on Saturday with winds of up to 90 kilometres an hour ripping roofs off homes and damaging power lines and trees.
30 thousand people have been evacuated and more than 600 homes have collapsed entirely, according to Vietnam’s Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention. 22 people are still missing.
Heavy rain and high winds are continuing to lash the coastal strip, causing flooding and a 30 kilometre tailback on Vietnam’s main north-south highway in Thừa Thiên-Huế province.
Da Nang, which is about 500km to the north of the worst hit area, also suffered some damage. The city is due to host U.S. President Donald Trump later this week at summit of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders.
