At least five people had died in Tamil Nadu, India, by November 1, as the northeast monsoon brought heavy rain and severe flooding to the state, The Hindustan Times reported.

Schools in the Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur districts remained closed on Wednesday as the state braced for more heavy rainfall, local media reported.
