I have yet to read the book, but this movie has bedazzled me and I am sure that the book is even more fascinating. However, putting the book aside, we're here to make our reviews about the movie and not comparing it to other works or even the novel. I know that from some of the reviews, many people were disappointed and unsatisfied or even thought the movie was trash. Though, from a fresh pair of eyes, I would think this movie was absolutely brilliant. From the acting to the music, settings, and even costumes had made this movie into a crowned jewel from my point of view. Having Leonardo taking the role of Gatsby was perfect. I have never doubted about his acting, and his performance has certainly assured me once again. The power, the mystery, to his passion, it was all very well portrayed. As for the music, I do understand everyone's dislikes toward the music that were featured in the movie. However, think of it this way, can you really bring out the feeling of an awesome party with just jazz and some retro music? The music featured during the parties were just an effect to capture the viewer's sense of excitement. Nevertheless, the song "Young and Beautiful" by Lana Del Rey was absolutely breathtaking and it was perfect for the movie. Perfect. Not to mention the settings and the costumes, they were very well displayed. They demonstrated a glamorous era in New York which was merely a mirage to many. It was beautifully coordinated. Overall, in my opinion, this is a wonderful movie. Definitely one of the best I have seen.
...without Baz Luhrmann and people like him prepared to take risks in life.

The book is undoubtedly great but how many people under 30 have ever read it......1 in 50 ....1 in a 100 .....what a tragic waste!

This Gatsby is there to be enjoyed not analysed. It is one mans perspective on a book that will unquestionably bring a new audience which is only a good thing. It asks questions, raises debate and provokes controversy....all good things too!

We are privileged to live in an era with such an amazing daring film- maker. Yes, he takes risks, Yes, he get's things wrong but the overall blend is always a heady ride ......full of amazing imagery, passion and inspiring music.

So enjoy this great film, thank heavens for Baz Luhrmann and let time show what utter fools the critic are.....
