The name “Testarossa” (translated as “Red Head”) was named after a series of 1950’s racing cars that featured red painted camshaft covers, a feature that Ferrari’s new Testarossa would inherit. The finished car was unveiled to the public at the 1984 Paris Motor Show at the famed Lido nightclub. With a 390 horsepower 4.9 liter flat-12 engine, the Testarossa was good for a 0-60 mph time of 5 seconds and pushed speeds of 180 mph. Its legendary performance and iconic Pininfarina lines spoke to a generation of enthusiasts, in part to numerous appearances in all forms of media, including a starring role in the popular Television show “Miami Vice” with Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas.
