President Trump wants a rule that NFL players can't kneel during the national anthem.
President Trump tweeted Tuesday morning that the "only way out" of the controversy surrounding NFL players not standing during the national anthem is to create a new rule.
"The NFL has all sorts of rules and regulations," Trump said. "The only way out for them is to set a rule that you can't kneel during our National Anthem!"
The tweet comes hours after the president commented on the entire Dallas Cowboys team kneeling prior to the national anthem Monday night.
"The booing at the NFL football game last night, when the entire Dallas team dropped to its knees, was loudest I have ever heard. Great anger," Trump stated in earlier tweets. "But while Dallas dropped to its knees as a team, they all stood up for our National Anthem. Big progress being made-we all love our country!"
The president used an expletive on Friday to lash out at NFL players for taking a knee during the national anthem.
“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a b—-h off the field right now. Out! He’s fired. He’s fired!’” Trump said at a campaign-style rally in Alabama.
