Connecticut’s New Milford Town Councilman, Scott Chamberlain, has resigned after his online animal costume profile was reportedly found to have mentioned that he "tolerates" rape.

Connecticut’s New Milford Town Councilman, Scott Chamberlain, has resigned after his online animal costume profile was reportedly found to have mentioned that he "tolerates" rape.
Details from the councilman's profile on a private website were said to be posted to Facebook by a resident from the area.
The News-Times reports that the website is aimed at "‘furries,’ many of whom participate in or write about unusual sexual practices.”
However, as Patch notes, "It wasn't so much Chamberlain's involvement in Furry Fandom that had people perturbed, but part of his online profile that said he 'tolerates' rape."
Chamberlain defended himself, telling the News-Times, “It’s nothing to do with sex; it’s an interest in cartoon animals."
Meanwhile, Mayor David Gronbach called for Chamberlain’s resignation immediately not also from his position as Town Councilman but also from all related public servitude roles.
“As public servants, we are held to a higher standard and Mr. Chamberlain’s apparent posts do not meet that standard,” Gronbach stated in an email to the New York Post.
Chamberlain announced his resignation shortly thereafter.
