In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, a mother in Houston is advising flood victims to be cautious of electrical currents like the one she says claimed the life of her son on Tuesday, reports KTRK.
The victim, 25-year-old Andrew Pasek, and a friend were reportedly headed to his sister’s house to retrieve her pet cat she’d left behind.
According to WFAA, the area was still under 2 feet of water and the men were wading through it.
Pasek’s mother told the news outlet, “Andrew stepped in the water, and he felt the shock. [His friend] reached for him to try and pull him and Andrew said 'No, I’m dying. And you will die too.' And he just fell over in the water.” (3,5,all)
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family, and, as of Thursday morning, had gathered over four times its $10,000 goal.
