Fans of Princess Diana began arriving at the gates of Kensington Palace on Tuesday to mark the 20th anniversary of her death.

One group of admirers arrived with a cake they had prepared especially for the occasion decorated with a portrait of the Princess of Wales.

All over the gates of Diana's London residence were cards and messages from supporters of the late princess.

On 31 August 1997, Diana was killed in a car crash in the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris.
