Venezuela's ruling party on Friday installed a new constituent assembly that plans to rewrite the constitution and give vast powers to the ruling Socialist Party allowing them to override other government branches.

The assembly is set to run in the same complex as the opposition run congress in Caracas, President Nicolas Maduro said the 545-member assembly could bring peace to the nation which has seen frequent violent protests.
