Billowing smoke and flames rose from the Diamond Creek Fire in Okanogan County, Washington, on August 1.
Firefighters have been battling the now 6,725-acre fire since July 23. Located in Washington’s Pasayten Wilderness about sixteen miles north of the town of Mazama, the fire has been 11 percent contained, according to the US Forest Service. A heat wave expected in parts of Washington and Oregon this week could worsen fire conditions.
