COLUMBUS, OHIO — Shocking video shows a spinning ride break apart at the Ohio State Fair, killing one man and critically injuring several others.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, the Fire Ball is marketed as an aggressive thrill ride that swings riders 40 feet above the ground while doing 13 revolutions per minute.
Despite reportedly passing inspections, tragedy struck on opening day when a row of seats snapped off just as the ride began to swing upward.
Multiple riders were hurled into the air, including one 18-year-old, who was killed on impact as he landed about 50 feet away.
Three people were taken to the hospital in critical condition, while four others were injured but in stable condition.
All other rides at the fair have been shut down, and won’t be reopened until additional safety inspections can be completed.
