Zooming through the skies, gliding as softly as a cloud…it must be a monorail!China’s fastest-ever monorail is currently undergoing testing, with a maximum speed of 40 miles per hour. The project is situated in Hancheng City, northwest Shaanxi Province, running through a number of scenic and historical sites along the city. The sky train is driven by a permanent magnet motor and runs 16 feet above the ground. It can carry up to 500 passengers and is operable in both urban and mountainous areas. Engineers say the lightweight and low-cost system is also more environmentally friendly than subways. This is China’s third suspended railway.
It will connect Hancheng City with the airport, about 34 miles away.Germany and Japan are currently the the only other countries using this technology. The post China Unveils Its Fastest Monorail appeared first on Vocativ.
