Donald Trump arrives in Paris for Bastille Day as Macron tries to boost world position
PRESIDENT Trump has arrived in Paris today to watch the country's Bastille Day celebrations despite his deep unpopularity in the French capital - and a notably strained relationship with his counterpart. Denis Lacorne, a leading French specialist on America said: “Macron has positions much closer to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. “He’s a pluralist. He’s got a world vision that’s exactly the opposite of Trump’s.”The pair will watch Amercan troops with French allies in an annual parade, to mark 100 years since the US intervened in the First World War.Professor and think tank leader Nicolas Tenzer said in France Mr Macron is gaining status as a “privileged interlocutor” for Trump in the EU.He said: “And this, in spite of the vast ideological and political gulf between the two“The English are bogged down in Brexit.”



Mr Tenzer described relations with Germany and Mrs Merkel “a disaster” for the White House.Left wing politicians have expressed deep anger at the Trump visit with Jean-Luc Mélenchon insisting the President has “no business” in France.Others have taken a more pragmatic approach to the visit, insisting the pair can carve out a "business" relationship, since it would be unwise to break financial and trade ties. Mr Trump will be welcomed in a ceremony at Les Invalides followed by a meeting at the Élysée Palace. Melania Trump is accompanying her husband, before the pair dine with Mr Macron and his wife, Brigitte.. 00FastNews.
