In protest against the decision of the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) of choosing Dharwad over Raichur and Mysuru for establishing the proposed Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), several civil society organisations, educational institutions, Dalit groups and Kannada organisations have called for a bandh.
