Senate Republicans revealed an updated health care bill Thursday that will retain some of the language from Obamacare. One such piece of the bill still contains two taxes on the wealthy, a Senate source told Reuters. They are: a 3.8 percent tax on net investment income for individuals earning more than $200,000 and couples earning more than $250,000; and an 0.9 percent surtax for the Medicare insurance program for the elderly on people with those incomes. The updated bill will keep the cap at which a company can deduct employee salaries as a business expense at $500,000. There is also $45 billion for fighting the opioid addiction epidemic hitting large parts of the nation. Overall, Republicans are looking to provide roughly $70 billion in additional funds that states could use to help make health care more affordable.
