Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has blasted President Trump’s announcement about working with Russian President Vladimir Putin on cybersecurity.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has blasted President Trump’s announcement about potentially working with Russian President Vladimir Putin on cybersecurity.
During an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday, the South Carolina lawmaker said, “It’s not the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard, but it’s pretty close.”
Graham went on to call Trump’s extended meeting with Putin during the G20 summit “disastrous.”
He explained, “Two hours and fifteen minutes of meetings, [Secretary of State] Tillerson and Trump are ready to forgive and forget when it comes to cyber attacks on the American election of 2016.”
Despite complimenting Trump on other foreign policy matters, Graham ultimately conceded, “When it comes to Russia, he's got a blind spot, and to forgive and forget when it comes to Putin regarding cyberattacks is to empower Putin, and that’s exactly what he’s doing.”
His comments were prompted by a tweet Trump had posted earlier in the day, stating, “Putin & I discussed forming an impenetrable Cyber Security unit so that election hacking, & many other negative things, will be guarded.”
In an appearance on ABC News' "This Week," Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin pushed back on the criticism surrounding Trump's discussion on cybersecurity with Putin.
"I think this is a very important step forward that what we want to make sure is that we coordinate with Russia, that we're focused on cybersecurity together, that we make sure that they never interfere in any democratic elections or conduct any cybersecurity," Mnuchin said. "This is about having capabilities to make sure that we both fight cyber together, which I think is a very significant accomplishment for President Trump. "
