Review--

Dulquer Salman and Martin Prakkat go for a ride that takes the viewer’s straight into the heart of things, love. Their Christmas gift, Charlie is a fictional biopic of a man who lived as the ambassador of love. Everything that related to the movie spreads this message of happiness and that makes Charlie a perfect shoot for a festive season like Christmas.

The movie follows a very simple story line that discusses interconnected lives of two simple people, Charlie, played by Dulquer Salman, and Tessa, played by Parvathy. One thing that makes Charlie is he can spread happiness to all around him and he carries a bohemian, ever celebrating outlook toward life. The guy holds an Osho like spiritual celebration in his core while Parvathy is a typical graphical artist with metropolitan sensibilities. The movie humorously depicts incidents before and after the two fell in love with each other, and the places and characters they come across in their journey.

Charlie is basically a writer’s movie as much as a director’s one. Unni R and Martin Prakkat did a good job as writers and the script benefitted a lot from the collaboration. Even minor characters in the movie have a fresh breath air to breath and all the events are well organized. Martin Prakkat executes his well-written script with confidence and Charlie will never let you wander your mind somewhere else while watching the movie. He also keeps a balance that makes Charlie a fan movie and a movie for neutral audience at the same time.

Apart from scripting, Dulquer and Parvathy are the two trump cards in the movie and the two actors steal the show with their stunning performance. Dulquer proved that he has matured enough to play characters with more than one characteristic shade and capable of carrying a movie on his shoulders. The actor shows enormous screen presence and effortless acting through the movie. Parvathy turns up with a dynamic change from her previous character Kanchanamala and she did a wonderful job as Tessa. They share a wonderful chemistry on screen and it’s a joy to watch them together.

Aparna Gopinath, Nedumudi Venu, Chempan Vinod, Tovino Thomas, and Kalpana deserve applause for the portrayal of their characters. Jomon T John continues his awesome form after ENM and the frames go wild and exotic when Charlie reached Peerumedu and Moonnar. Gopi Sunder’s songs helped Charlie to be feel good movie. Charlie is for all, because happiness is for all.
