Beside world capital of YOGA, Rishikesh is also famous for whitewater river Rafting. Rishikesh attracts thousands of adventure lovers every year. The sacred river Ganga offers the professional as well as the amateur the exhilaration of white water rafting. Down river from Devprayag, the Ganga changes into a pool drop river. This stretch of almost 70 km is perfect for amateur and the novice, for here the river offers some fine Grade III rapids and two Grade IV 'GOLF COURSE', 4 km below Shivpuri village; each followed by rapids, the 'WALL' at Byasi and the deep and placid pools.
Rafting starts in September after monsoon season. Normally it ends in June month before monsoon. Spring and summer is peak season for rafting. During Dec – Jan most of the people don't dare do rafting due to very cold water.
Rafting Route:-
Deoprayag to Kaudiyala-30 kms run.
Kaudiyala to Marine Drive-11 kms run.
Marine Drive to Shivpuri-12 kms run.
Shivpuri to Rishikesh-14 kms run.
River Water Grade:-
Grade 1 : Easy, small waves. No obstacles.
Grade 2 : Moderate difficulty with clear passages.
Grade 3 : Difficult, high irregular waves, narrow passages require precise maneuvering.
Grade 4 : Difficult, powerful waves. Very precise maneuvering required.
Grade 5 : Extremely difficult, violent, highly congested. Water Grade 2/3 in Brahmpuri, Shivpuri Water Grade 2/3 Plus,Marine Drive 3/4 Plus and Kaudiyala 4 Plus.
