Brain trauma researchers have created a virtual reality tool to diagnose real world problems, fast.

The Eye-Sync headset tests for traumatic brain injuries by screening for ocular-motor synchronization — the ability for a person’s brain to control their eye movements — a key impairment in concussions.

First, a user puts on the headset and then performs an eye-tracking test, which involves following a dot moving in a circle. People suffering from concussions typically have impulsive eye movements, making it difficult for them to track the dots.

The Eye-Sync test claims to get results in just 60-seconds, much faster than traditional eye tests.

Currently, Stanford University is using Eye-Sync in all of its collegiate sporting events, and the business has plans to expand nationwide.

There are nearly four million sports-related concussions in the U.S. every year.
