Maybe stars really are just like us. After years of reckless spending, broke Johnny Depp is resorting to selling off even more of his beloved — and pricey — 200-piece art collection to make ends meet.
“The grim reality is that Johnny needs money ASAP to stay afloat,” admits a friend, who says the Pirates of the Caribbean star is shivering his timbers over the looming legal battle with his accountants. Last year, Christie’s auction house sold nine of Johnny’s Basquiat works for $13.7 million and will soon put his Modigliani, Klimt and Warhol paintings — plus items owned by Marilyn Monroe and Marlon Brando — up for sale too. “Most of his pieces are in storage anyway, so he really should’ve sold them years ago,” adds the tipster. “But he was in such denial about his money problems. And now, he’s paying the price.”
