President Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met on Monday to discuss the countries' future relationship. “I deeply appreciate your strong commitment to the enhancement of our bilateral relations. I am sure that under your leadership a mutually beneficial strategic partnership will gain new strength, new positivity, and will reach new heights," Modi told Trump. Trump pledged to maintain the ongoing relationship, but made it clear he wants to expand American exports and create jobs at home. Last year the U.S. trade deficit with India grew to almost $31 billion.
