Airbus has unveiled a new design concept that has people imagining a helicopter with wings. Known as the Racer, the prototype uses two extra propellers to provide more than 40 percent greater speed. While standard helicopters usually can fly up to 160 mph, Airbus says the Racer will reach speeds of 250 mph.
Its design is based off an earlier prototype, which set a helicopter speed record in 2013 by flying at 293 mph. Airbus says a fully functioning prototype will be ready in 2019, but it won’t be on sale for at least another decade.
