CNN’s Jim Acosta has called White House press secretary Sean Spicer “kind of useless.”
Acosta made the comment on air to host Brooke Baldwin in the wake of a press briefing Monday where no video or audio was allowed.
He said, “The White House press secretary is getting to a point, Brooke, where he’s just kind of useless. If he can’t come out and answer the questions, and they’re just not going to do this on camera or audio, why are we even having these briefings or these gaggles in the first place?”
Acosta also expressed his frustration on Twitter, writing, “Make no mistake about what we are all witnessing. This is a WH that is stonewalling the news media. Hiding behind no camera/no audio gaggles.”
He added, in a pair of messages, “There is a suppression of information going on at this WH that would not be tolerated at a city council mtg or press conf with a state gov. Call me old fashioned but I think the White House of the United States of America should have the backbone to answer questions on camera.”
The Hill reports that when Spicer was asked about the ban on live broadcasting, he referred to two events where President Trump would be making comments and added, “There are days where we decide that the president’s voice should be the one who speaks for the administration.”
