Scores of people have been killed in wildfires burning in the Portuguese area of Leiria, including a forested area known as Pedrogao Grande, on the weekend of June 17-18.
Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa said at least 61 people had been killed and referred to the fires as “the greatest tragedy of human lives we have seen in Portugal in recent times.”
He said many were killed trying to flee in their cars. This video shows an orange haze from the blaze on the horizon, and sirens can be heard. Credit: YouTube/Fastronic via Storyful
