Lily Allen attends protests in Grenfell Tower as BBC reveal reason her interview was axed
THE BBC have explained the reasoning behind axing Lily Allen’s Newsnight interview which was due to take place outside Grenfell Tower yesterday.
The 32-year-old - who previously claimed that the horrific fire had killed “closer to 150 people instead of what was being reported” as she spoke to Channel 4 - had been expected to speak to the BBC shortly afterwards, but the broadcaster was forced to change the line-up at the last minute.
The BBC told Express.co.uk: "With live news programmes like Newsnight final decisions on guests are often made late in the day which can mean the line up changes at short notice.
"Newsnight secured an interview with the leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council late on Thursday evening and dropped Lily in order to allow time for Kirsty Wark to conduct a thorough accountability interview.
“Like other BBC outlets, Newsnight has reported official casualty figures but also made it clear that they are expected to rise substantially.”
The singer, who grew up nearby, continued: “The death count has been downplayed by the mainstream media. 17? Sorry, I’m hearing that the figure is much closer to a 150.
“And, that many of those are children. Those are off-the-record figures I have been given from policemen and firemen.”
